Thiruvananthapuram: Even if it is a tree that bears golden fruit, if it leans over the house it must be cut down — and Shashi Tharoor is a silent partisan whose loyalty is with BJP; even if he goes to the BJP now, nothing will happen to the Congress, said MP Rajmohan Unnithan.

“One must understand that no one will go with him to the BJP. The massive victory he got was the result of disciplined workers toiling hard. The Congress has always given him the best consideration. When Tharoor supports Modi, who declared India a Hindu Rashtra, how distressed will our Christian and Muslim brothers feel? He is committing a grave mistake. When everyone hunted him in the Sunanda Pushkar death case, it was the Congress that stood by him. Whatever he has in mind won’t be allowed to materialize. Congress knows how to anticipate his moves,” Unnithan said.

Unnithan had earlier remarked that Tharoor is trying to leave the party in the garb of a “martyr” after disciplinary action is taken, and that the Congress will not allow that. Whatever Tharoor is doing is clearly not something that benefits the Congress, he said.

Tharoor recently stirred controversy by sharply criticizing the Nehru family in an article, while continuing to praise Modi. He also attended the presidential dinner for Russian President Vladimir Putin even though Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge were not invited to the event.
