Thiruvananthapuram: Rain is likely in Kerala over the next few days as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean has intensified into a deep depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather department said the system is expected to strengthen further into a very severe depression within the next 24 hours. In view of this, light to moderate rainfall is forecast across the state on January 9, 10 and 11.

There is also a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts for the day.

The IMD said the alert indicates the likelihood of isolated heavy rain, defined as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious.
