Thiruvananthapuram: Despite being arrested in a rape case, Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil has not been fully condemned by MP Shafi Parambil. Speaking to the media, Shafi said that if Mamkoottathil had committed any wrongdoing, the law should determine the outcome.

However, Shafi did not respond to questions regarding the flat in Vadakara, which is mentioned by a survivor in the third rape complaint that led to Mamkoottathil’s arrest. “Did anyone tell me there’s a flat? Why should I answer?” he said.

The remand report states that Mamkoottathil repeatedly pressured the survivor to visit the Vadakara flat. Although he asked her to go there after the assault, she refused, stating she would never return. He reportedly continued to threaten her and insist that she come to the flat.

Mamkoottathil’s own flat is in Palakkad, raising questions about why the survivor was allegedly asked to visit the Vadakara property. The investigation team is expected to clarify the matter. There is suspicion that someone connected to Mamkoottathil may have invited her to the flat.

DYFI State Secretary V K Sanoj has called for a probe into the ownership of the Vadakara flat. According to Sanoj, Shafi Parambil is a key figure in the Congress “crime syndicate,” with Mamkoottathil as its principal member.

Even after the survivors’ statements and Mamkoottathil’s chat messages were made public, Shafi has not commented on whether Mamkoottathil is guilty. Earlier, when female colleagues revealed that Shafi had received serious complaints about Mamkoottathil, he remained silent.
