Woman leader alleges misconduct by Rahul Mamkoottathil; Shafi Parambil accused of shielding him

Kozhikode: A woman leader has revealed that she had a bad experience with Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil. M A Shahanas, KPCC Cultural Cell General Secretary and former Youth Congress leader, spoke to the media about the incident. Shahanas said that she had informed Shafi Parambil, who was then the State President of Youth Congress, about Mamkoottathil’s misconduct. However, Shafi protected Mamkoottathil, despite having received multiple complaints about him in the past.

Shahanas said that during the farmers’ protest, when she returned from Delhi, Mamkoottathil had sent her an inappropriate message, to which she responded at the time. Later, she shared Mamkoottathil’s message with Shafi and urged that someone who behaves badly towards women should not be made Youth Congress President. However, Shafi continued to protect Mamkoottathil. Shahanas said that if Shafi denies her allegation, she is ready to make the evidence public.

Shahanas added that many women in Congress and Mahila Congress are already aware of Mamkoottathil’s behaviour, and that numerous people have had bad experiences with him. She is speaking out to create a space where others can also come forward.
