Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged young people to remain cautious while navigating the digital world, noting that while children today demonstrate remarkable skills with technology, they must also learn to recognise its hidden risks.

Responding to a question from actor Mohanlal about what advice he would offer the younger generation, the Chief Minister said today’s children have unprecedented access to information at their fingertips.

“Our children are showing many wonders with their phones. They have access to vast amounts of information instantly. But that world is very big, and we must be able to recognise the traps within it,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of openness between children and parents, cautioning against secrecy in online activities.

“Sometimes young children may not even realise how far they have gone. The most important thing is not to hide anything from parents and not to act in secrecy. There should be no situation where a child feels the need to prevent their mother or father from seeing what they are watching. If there is openness at home, children themselves will develop the understanding of what is appropriate and what is not,” he said.

The Chief Minister stressed that at a young age, children should not get used to doing things secretly without the knowledge of their parents, adding that transparency and trust within families are essential in the digital era.
