FCRA Amendment Causing Concerns Among Minorities, Centre Must Withdraw the Decision: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed serious concern over the central government's amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), stating that it is generating profound unease and a sense of insecurity among minority communities. He described it as a grave matter and called on the Centre to immediately withdraw from this course of action, stressing that such measures serve no good to the nation.

The Chief Minister warned that the situation where an institution can be seized merely on account of a delay in submitting accounts is deeply dangerous. He pointed out that many Christian organisations use foreign funds to run a wide range of essential services, including hospitals and schools, and that such contributions must be viewed not with suspicion but with encouragement. These are services that benefit society at large and deserve to be supported, not penalised.

The FCRA amendment has caused widespread apprehension particularly among Christian communities, the Chief Minister noted. The central government's actions are creating serious disquiet among a section of the country's population and generating a climate of insecurity — a situation that is harmful to the nation as a whole. A country must move forward by embracing all its people, he said, and not by adopting policies that alienate and marginalise certain communities. He made clear that the approach of pushing one group to the margins is not the path a democratic and plural nation should take.
