Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the misogynistic and derogatory remarks made by Muslim League leader and Kayamkulam UDF convenor Irshad Chakkalassery against LDF candidate U Prathibha.

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that targeting a female public figure with demeaning language reflects a serious decline in political culture. He stated that the opposition has resorted to personal attacks because it is unable to politically counter Prathibha’s development initiatives and public engagement in the constituency.

CM also criticized the stance of UDF leaders, including the Leader of the Opposition, accusing them of hypocrisy. “Those who repeatedly claim to stand "Avalkoppam"(with her) are now exposing their double standards by remaining silent on such misogynistic behavior,” he said.

He further emphasized that the remarks were not merely an attack on an individual but an insult to all women participating in public life. “This reflects a regressive political mindset that fails to recognize women as individuals with dignity and instead seeks to demean them,” the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister asserted that the UDF is mistaken if it believes that insulting women can win votes, rather than engaging in meaningful discussions on development and public issues. Reiterating the Left’s commitment, he said Kerala has consistently stood for safeguarding the dignity and rights of women.
