CM Releases ₹50 Lakh Emergency Fund for Thrissur Firecracker Unit Disaster; Full State Machinery Mobilised

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced the immediate release of ₹50 lakh from the state disaster relief fund to address the emergency situation arising from the Thrissur fireworks explosion in Thrissur. The Disaster Management Department's Finance Officer has been tasked with releasing the funds without delay.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the entire state administration has been placed on full alert to ensure all necessary medical assistance reaches the injured. He said specialist doctors from hospitals outside Kerala will be brought in if required to treat those with severe burns, and that a dedicated monitoring mechanism is in place to oversee all relief and rescue operations.

"All steps needed for rescue operations are being taken. Police, Fire and Rescue, Health, Revenue, and Disaster Management departments are all working in a coordinated manner," the Chief Minister said, reaffirming the government's commitment to sparing no resource in responding to the tragedy.

The death toll currently stands at eight, with 23 persons admitted to Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Rescue operations are continuing into the night, with lighting arrangements put in place to ensure uninterrupted work. Secondary explosions and fire continue to hamper access to the blast site, where an unconfirmed number of workers may still be trapped.
