Palakkad Mahila Congress Leader Jayalakshmi Joins BJP

Palakkad: Ahead of the assembly elections, Congress suffered a major setback in Palakkad district as Mahila Congress district secretary Jayalakshmi left the party and joined the BJP. During the election campaign event of NDA candidate Shanku T. Das in Shornur, Union Minister Suresh Gopi welcomed Jayalakshmi by draping her with a golden shawl.

Jayalakshmi stated that she had a very bad experience with the Congress leadership, adding that she was publicly insulted by Congress leaders for sharing a wedding photo of Union Minister Suresh Gopi's daughter on WhatsApp and Instagram stories.

She clarified that she left the party because the situation escalated to the point of threats against her family, which deeply hurt her. Suresh Gopi remarked that during the times of E.K. Nayanar and V.S. Achuthanandan, there were intense political contests.

Shanku T. Das, the NDA candidate, claimed that this is just the beginning of Congress's internal rifts and that more leaders will join the NDA in the coming days. Amid disputes over candidate selection, Jayalakshmi’s party switch has put Congress on the defensive.
