Thiruvananthapuram: CPI M leaders have filed a complaint with the Election Commission against councillors of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation for taking their oaths invoking gods, in what has sparked controversy. The complaints were submitted by CPI M Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary V Joy and Corporation LDF Parliamentary Party Leader Adv. S P Deepakumar.
The complaints allege that BJP and Congress councillors failed to follow legal procedures during the oath-taking, violating Section 143 of the Kerala Municipality Act, 1994, and the Kerala Municipality Rules, 1995. The councillors reportedly took the oath in the names of Attukal Devi, Sree Padmanabhaswamy, Swami Ayyappan, Allah, and Karyavattam Sree Dharmasastha.
The LDF has demanded a legal inquiry into the oath-taking process and called for it to be declared invalid.
