Thiruvananthapuram: In his condolence message, CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the demise of K.N. Panikkar has left a gap in the field of Indian historical research that can never be filled. The modern historian of India, the guardian of secularism, has now become part of history. We have lost a brilliant historian. He was always able to strongly oppose the moves of communal forces to distort history. He was a great historian who was able to present to the world the history of the struggle of farmers, workers, and ordinary people against imperialism.

Govindan further said that the nation will not forget the contribution of K.N. Panikkar as a historian, intellectual, and a strong advocate of secularism. His passing, when preparations were underway under the leadership of the Council for Historical Research to celebrate his ninetieth birthday, is deeply saddening for us all. He is remembered as a historian who succeeded in establishing a position on the side of humanity and promoting secular perspectives.

In his message, M.V. Govindan also expressed that Dr. K.N. Panikkar's family members, colleagues, and millions of secular-minded individuals who loved and respected him, are sharing in the pain of his loss.
