Muhammad Riyas to Take Legal Action Against Mathrubhumi Over Fake News

Kozhikode: MLA P A Muhammad Riyas has said he will initiate legal action against the Mathrubhumi daily for publishing what he described as fake news about him.

The report was published on the front page of Monday's edition of Mathrubhumi. The report stated that Section 13(1)(b) would be applicable against former minister Muhammad Riyas for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his income. The report was published under the headline, “Bribery charge will stand against Pinarayi,” and carried the byline of journalist V S Siju.

Muhammad Riyas said legal action would be taken against Mathrubhumi and the journalist who prepared the report for publishing what he described as a baseless and false report.

He also said he would legally challenge attempts to defame him by spreading fake news.
