Kalpetta: The construction of the model house at Mundakkai Township, part of the government’s rehabilitation project for families affected by the landslides in Wayanad, is progressing steadily. The foundation and pillar work has been successfully completed, and preparations are underway to begin the concrete roofing. The project is being executed by the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), recognized for its expertise in executing high-quality infrastructure projects at a rapid pace.
This model house, part of a larger rehabilitation initiative, is expected to be completed within 70 days from its launch on April 16. Once finished, it will serve as a prototype to assess the quality of construction and guide the building of additional homes within the township.
In addition to the model house, construction has commenced on 99 homes in the first phase of development. Each house is allotted 7 cents of land, and the government has acquired land in the Elston and Meppadi estates to accommodate over 450 homes across five construction zones.
To ensure progress, workers are residing at temporary accommodations within a repurposed factory on-site. Work is continuing around the clock in shifts to meet the November deadline for handing over the homes to beneficiaries. The Elston estate’s former bungalow is being transformed into a site office for project coordination.
Once all homes and roads are completed, the focus will shift to the second phase of development, which will include the construction of essential community infrastructure, such as public buildings, schools, healthcare centers, and commercial facilities.
