Operation Lotus: BJP-Congress Alliance Topples LDF in Mattathur, Independent Tessie Joseph Becomes President

Thrissur: In a dramatic political shift in Mattathur panchayat, the BJP-Congress alliance to stop LDF from coming into power. The LDF lost control of the panchayat after Congress members resigned and extended their support to BJP.

The eight Congress members resigned and joined hands with the BJP to form an alliance, defeating LDF, the single largest party. Out of the total 24 seats, the LDF now has 10 members.

Tessie Joseph, an independent candidate, was elected as the president by securing votes from the eight resigned Congress members, two independents who contested as rebels, and four BJP members.
