LDF, UDF Retain Two Panchayat Wards Each in Malappuram in By-Elections

Malappuram: The LDF and UDF retained two panchayat wards each in the by-elections held in Malappuram district. The LDF won in Kadannamanna ward of Mankada panchayat and Verur ward of Kaladi panchayat, while the UDF won in Moolakkal ward of Tanur panchayat and Poongudaya ward of Vengara panchayat.

In Kadannamanna (Ward 4) of Mankada panchayat, LDF candidate Pathutti Abdurahiman Poonthottathil won by a margin of 49 votes, securing 634 votes. The joint candidate of the Muslim League and Welfare Party, Rasiya Poonthottathil, secured 585 votes. The by-election was necessitated by the death of LDF member Chakkuparambil Nazeera.

In Verur (Ward 12) of Kaladi panchayat, LDF candidate M S Abhilash won by a margin of 341 votes. Abhilash secured 615 votes, while NDA candidate T P Chithran received 274 votes and UDF candidate V P Drishya secured 174 votes. The by-election was held following the death of LDF member K Ravi.

In Moolakkal (Ward 1) of Tanur panchayat, UDF candidate V P O Bushra won by a margin of 488 votes. NDA candidate Sudha Ramachandran received 220 votes, while LDF candidate V P Gopidas secured 181 votes. The by-election was held following the death of V P O Askar, who had won the ward and later became panchayat president. Bushra is his wife.

The UDF also retained Poongudaya (Ward 3) of Vengara panchayat. UDF candidate K P Haseena Fazal secured 944 votes, while LDF candidate U P Subhash received 136 votes. Haseena won by a margin of 808 votes. The by-election was held following the death of UDF member K P Faisal.
