Auto Driver Dies by Suicide in Malappuram, Alleges Harassment by MVD

Malappuram: An auto-rickshaw driver in Malappuram died by suicide, allegedly distressed by harassment from Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) officials. Shoukath (35), a native of Mundamparamba in Kizhisseri, Malappuram, died by suicide after sharing a suicide note on Facebook.

Shoukath levelled serious allegations against the MVD over the denial of a fitness certificate for his vehicle. In the note, he alleged that the Motor Vehicles Department was responsible for his death and that his application for the auto-rickshaw’s fitness certificate was repeatedly rejected when he approached the MVD directly instead of through an agent.
