Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) General Secretary MA Baby has strongly condemned the attack on Kerala Health Minister Veena George by KSU members at Kannur Railway Station, describing it as “highly condemnable.” He accused the opposition of attempting to disrupt law and order in Kerala ahead of upcoming assembly elections by sending criminal gangs, in a bid to gain power.

“Protests and dissent are natural in a democracy, but the opposition has chosen the path of violence instead of raising democratic concerns. This is a disgrace and an insult to Kerala’s cultural heritage,” MA Baby said.

He praised Veena George for her contributions in bringing national and international recognition to Kerala’s health sector. “The opposition has been planning attacks on the minister, who has been leading Kerala’s public health initiatives, for several days. The recent attack on her official residence must be seen in this context,” he added.

MA Baby noted that opposition parties have recently taken a defiant stance, including attempts to physically assault the Chief Minister and other ministers. He urged the Congress and UDF leadership to clearly denounce the attackers and clarify their position on the attack.

He called on all democratic citizens to mobilize against such acts of violence while warning CPI(M) and LDF activists not to fall into the opposition’s trap of creating tension and unrest in the state. MA Baby emphasized that protests should remain democratic and peaceful. He also demanded that police authorities identify the attackers, bring them to justice, and ensure appropriate punishment.
