Lorry Falls Into Water-Filled Quarry in Malappuram, One Trapped

Malappuram: A lorry plunged into a water-filled abandoned quarry in Malappuram on Friday afternoon, trapping one person under water while the driver was rescued, officials said.


The accident occurred at Ooroth Palliyal in Athavanad around 1 pm. According to authorities, the vehicle, carrying grocery goods, lost control and fell into the quarry, which is about 65 feet deep. The lorry became fully submerged after the fall.


The driver, identified as Jafar, was rescued from the scene and shifted to a nearby hospital. The cleaner, Musthafa, remains trapped, and rescue operations are under way.


Fire and rescue personnel, along with diving experts, are conducting search efforts at the site. A crane has also been brought in to lift the vehicle from the quarry as part of the ongoing rescue operation.
