Aluva/Angamaly: The funeral of Jasliya Johnson, a native of Edavanakkad who died in a car accident, will be held today. Four individuals will be given a new lease on life through Jaslia's organ donation. Jaslia’s body was placed for public viewing at the college at 8 AM on Wednesday, and the funeral service will take place at 3 PM at the Kuzhupilli St. Augustine’s Church cemetery. The college will be closed on Wednesday, and a holiday was declared on Tuesday following the news of her death.

Jasliya, who had been undergoing treatment at Aluva Rajagiri Hospital after the accident, was confirmed to have suffered brain death at 6:38 AM on Tuesday. Despite her critical condition, Jasliya's parents set an extraordinary example of humanity by consenting to donate her organs. Jasliya's liver will be transplanted to a patient at Aluva Rajagiri Hospital, her kidneys will go to Kottayam Medical College and Amrita Hospital, and her corneas will be donated to Little Flower Hospital in Angamaly.

Jasliya was a second-year B.Com student at Angamaly Morning Star College, and she worked part-time while pursuing her studies. On February 28, while returning from work, she was struck by a car at the Angamaly Telk Junction, sustaining a severe head injury. She was initially taken to a private hospital in Angamaly by the patrolling police, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was transferred to Rajagiri Hospital for specialised care. Despite the doctors' best efforts, they were unable to save her.

With the consent of Jasliya's father, Johnson from Kalathiparambu, and her mother, Lima, the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organisation (K-SOTTO) coordinated the organ donation process. Jaslia is also survived by her brother, Jaseen.

Health Minister Veena George paid tribute to Jasliya and expressed gratitude to her parents for their selfless act of organ donation in the midst of their grief.
