Left With No Option, Congress Expels Rahul Mankootathil

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA Rahul Mankootathil, accused in a rape case, has been expelled from the party. The decision came shortly after the Thiruvananthapuram District Sessions Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea and dismissed a petition seeking protection from arrest.
The KPCC had delayed a final decision on his future in the party while awaiting the court order, even as multiple sexual assault complaints had surfaced against him. Once the court refused bail, the leadership proceeded with expulsion.
KPCC president Sunny Joseph MLA said Rahul, who had already been under suspension, has now been removed from the party’s primary membership in view of the serious allegations and the criminal cases registered against him.
