Thiruvananthapuram: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar stated that the Left government will continue to govern in Kerala. He said that the Congress, which is in the opposition, will not be able to defeat the Left government. He also stated that he is an ardent Congressman and has no plans to join any other party at the moment.

At a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram, he severely criticised MP Shashi Tharoor. He alleged that Tharoor is trying to become Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s minister and described him as a strong careerist. Tharoor, who served as a minister during the United Progressive Alliance government, is now praising Modi, he said.

Aiyar praised the development and welfare activities of the Left government in Kerala. He stated that the Left government has fulfilled the dreams of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He added that as a Congress supporter, he wants the party to win in the state. However, as a Gandhian, he said he must speak the truth: the Left Democratic Front will continue to govern Kerala, and Pinarayi Vijayan will become the next Chief Minister.

He pointed out that for the first time in 75 years, the opposition did not come to power after defeating the ruling party. Congress was unable to return to power after five years. Therefore, he said, it must be understood that the Congress does not have the ability to defeat the Left government at present.

He also stated that differences of opinion exist within all political parties, but they usually do not become public. However, the internal conflicts within the Congress are visible to the public. He strongly criticised V. D. Satheesan, stating that he would not recommend him as a candidate for Chief Minister.
