LDF Wins Pullur Periya Panchayat Presidentship in Kasaragod

Kasargod: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won the post of president in the Pullur Periya Grama Panchayat in Kasargod district. CPI(M) leader Dr. C K Sabitha, who was elected from the Ambalathara ward, was chosen as panchayat president through a draw of lots.

As the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have an equal number of members in the panchayat, both sides received an equal number of votes in the election, making a draw of lots necessary. Usha N. Nair of the Congress was the UDF candidate. Both Sabitha and Usha secured nine votes each, while the NDA member abstained from voting.

C K Sabitha is the local secretary of the CPI(M) Ambalathara unit.

Despite the “unholy alliance” between the UDF and the BJP, the LDF registered a significant advance in Pullur Periya panchayat in this election. Within the LDF, the CPI(M) won eight seats and the CPI won one seat. In the UDF, the Congress won eight seats and the Muslim League secured one seat. The BJP won one seat.
