LDF to Hold Statewide Solidarity Events for Qatar on September 23

Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will organise solidarity gatherings across Kerala on September 23 in support of Qatar, LDF Convenor T P Ramakrishnan said after a meeting of the front on Monday.

He accused Israel of trying to create unrest in West Asia with the backing of the United States and the tacit approval of the Indian government. “Qatar has now become the seventh country to come under Israeli attack. This situation is causing serious tension in the region,” Ramakrishnan said.

With nearly five lakh Malayalis working in Qatar and neighbouring nations, the LDF has decided to express its concern through solidarity events. “Kerala has close ties with Qatar, and we cannot remain silent. The programmes on September 23 will reflect our support for the people of Qatar and our call for peace,” he added.

Arab nations have already convened summits to discuss the crisis, he noted, adding that the LDF wants Kerala to stand visibly with Qatar at this difficult time.
