Kozhikode: The beauty of Mananchira, Kozhikode Beach, city streets and Sarovaram Biopark is set to become even more vibrant with the launch of an open-bus service by KSRTC. The service was flagged off by Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas in Kozhikode. The bus, operated as part of KSRTC’s budget tourism initiative, is an electric vehicle manufactured by Switch Mobility.

The double-decker bus has a total of 64 seats, with 36 seats on the open upper deck and 28 on the lower deck. Tickets can be booked both online and through phone reservations. The service aims to provide ordinary people with an affordable opportunity to explore key tourist attractions in the city.

The bus will operate daily from 3 pm to 10.30 pm. In the first phase, the route will begin from the KSRTC stand and pass through major attractions including Sarovaram Biopark, Mananchira and Kozhikode Beach, with five trips scheduled initially. In the second phase, the service will be extended to major tourist destinations in the district such as Beypore, Chaliyam and Kappad Beach.

Similar open-bus services are already operating in Thiruvananthapuram, Munnar, Ernakulam and Thrissur. The flag-off ceremony was attended by Ahmed Devarkovil MLA, Ward Councillor Sreeja C Nair, KSRTC Assistant Work Manager Girish, and other officials.
