KSRTC Launches Digital Cloakroom System, First of Its Kind in India

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has introduced a digital cloakroom system, becoming the first road transport corporation in the country to roll out such a facility. The system, aimed at ensuring the safe and transparent storage of passengers’ luggage, was inaugurated by Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Depot.

In the initial phase, the service will be available at nine major stations—Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Munnar, Ernakulam, Aluva, Angamaly and Kozhikode. The minister also inaugurated a newly set up air-conditioned rest facility for KSRTC employees in Thiruvananthapuram.

The cloakroom operates entirely on a digital platform, replacing the earlier manual record system. Luggage is accepted through QR codes or digital tokens, allowing proper tracking and reducing the chances of loss or mix-ups. The facilities are monitored under strict security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance.

The KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director said the digital cloakroom facility would be extended to more depots across the state in the coming days. The move is part of KSRTC’s broader efforts to modernise public transport services and improve passenger convenience through the use of technology.
