Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC passengers will soon be able to purchase branded drinking water and food of their choice inside buses at affordable prices. Drinking water under the KSRTC label will be sold at one rupee less than the market MRP. This initiative not only benefits passengers but also ensures additional income for KSRTC employees.

For every bottle of water sold, the conductor will receive an incentive of two rupees, while the driver will receive one rupee. Officials explained that this incentive structure was designed to financially support drivers as well, as their opportunities for promotion are limited. Special holders will also be installed inside buses to enable drivers to store water bottles conveniently.

To promote waste-free travel and food distribution, KSRTC has granted permission to a startup company to manage onboard food services. Passengers can book meals online, and the food will be delivered directly to their seats when the bus reaches designated stations. A dedicated waste management system will be put in place to collect and dispose of food waste after meals. The responsibility of clearing this waste at nearby stations will rest with the concerned personnel. Officials added that KSRTC buses are currently being maintained in a clean condition, free from plastic bottles and other waste.

Growth in Budget Tourism Revenue

KSRTC has achieved significant success in the budget tourism sector. Revenue from budget tourism, which stood at 24 crore rupees last year, has increased to 42 crore rupees this year.
