KSRTC Daily Passenger Count Hits One Lakh: Minister K B Ganesh Kumar

Kollam/Thiruvananthapuram: Daily commuters in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses have touched one lakh, taking the corporation’s revenue to a record Rs 1.19 crore in a single day, Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar said.
He was inaugurating new services from the Punalur depot and announcing Rs 5 crore for its modernisation. The State Government has earmarked Rs 120 crore for the development of major bus stations, including Kottarakkara, Kayamkulam, Thrissur, Kollam, Attingal, Ernakulam, Chengannur, and Changanassery.

Computerisation will be implemented in Punalur, Aryankavu, and Kulathupuzha depots. A circular service has been launched to connect hilly areas in Punalur, with possible expansion if successful. More mini buses will be introduced for commuters in eastern highlands and coastal areas.
The minister announced a Rs 1 crore insurance scheme for employees, introduction of five lakh travel cards, installation of CCTV cameras, and air-conditioned rest rooms for staff. The doubl e-decker bus service launched in Munnar is generating a daily profit of Rs 48,000, he said.
New services include Punalur–Coimbatore Superfast, Punalur Town Circular, Punalur–Munnar Fast Passenger, and local routes from Kulathupuzha and Aryankavu depots.
At the Punalur event, MLA P S Supal presided. Punalur municipal chairperson K Pushpalatha, vice chairperson Ranjith Radhakrishnan, local body representatives, KSRTC officials, and political leaders were present. ganassery, Attingal, and Chengannur bus stations in South Kerala.
