Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced that partial power restrictions will continue across the state today, citing a sharp increase in electricity demand and inadequate power availability through the power exchange.

According to KSEB, electricity demand yesterday increased by around 500 to 600 MW compared to previous days. As the required quantity of power could not be procured through the power exchange, power regulation became unavoidable.

Power outages were reported in several parts of the state between 7.15 pm and 12.15 am yesterday, with consumers experiencing two separate interruptions totaling about one hour.

KSEB has appealed to consumers to extend their cooperation by minimizing electricity consumption during peak hours.

Power Minister Sunny Joseph said the power shortage was due to reduced rainfall, which has affected electricity generation. Meanwhile, Health Minister K Muraleedharan said the recent spread of communicable diseases in the state was the result of heavy rainfall.
