Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a high alert across the state in response to soaring temperatures and the increasing risk of heat-related health issues.

In its advisory, the Authority urged the public to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm, warning that prolonged exposure could lead to serious health conditions such as sunstroke, heatstroke, and dehydration. People have been advised to drink water regularly, even if they do not feel thirsty, and to avoid beverages such as alcohol, tea, and coffee during the daytime, as they may contribute to dehydration.

Special guidelines have been issued for educational institutions, workplaces, and the construction sector. Schools have been directed to avoid conducting assemblies and outdoor events that expose students to the sun. Employers, particularly in sectors involving outdoor labour such as construction and delivery services, have been advised to reschedule working hours and ensure adequate rest periods for workers.

With rising temperatures increasing the risk of forest fires, residents in forest-fringe areas and tourists have been asked to remain vigilant. The Authority also emphasized that anyone experiencing symptoms of heat-related health issues should seek immediate medical attention.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to strictly follow safety guidelines to prevent heat-related emergencies.
