Nasreena Murder: Did Adnan Stage Attack on Himself?

Kozhikode: Disturbing new details have emerged in the brutal murder of 16-year-old Nasreena, deepening the shock that has gripped the locality. Police investigations reveal that the killing was carried out with chilling premeditation by her 20-year-old maternal cousin Adnan, who subsequently died — apparently by suicide.

According to investigators, Adnan entered Nasreena's house through the back door on Monday night carrying plaster tape, which he used to bind her hands and feet before wrapping a shawl around her neck and smothering her to death. Relatives and neighbours have also stated that poison was poured into Nasreena's mouth. CCTV footage of Adnan entering the premises of the house has been recovered by police.

After killing Nasreena, Adnan proceeded to the room of her grandmother Safiya and attempted to kill her as well. Safiya awoke, raised an alarm, and people rushed to the scene. Adnan then retreated into an inner room and bolted the door. Police from Chelavoor station, alerted by the family, arrived to find Nasreena dead and Adnan in another room with plaster tape wound around his face — a detail police believe may have been a deliberate attempt to make it appear as though he too had been attacked.

It is suspected that he consumed poison before applying the tape, realising he was about to be caught. Both were rushed to the Medical College Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.

While the primary trigger is believed to be Adnan's grudge over being exposed for stealing ₹50,000 from the household and subsequently being barred from visiting, police now suspect robbery may have been an additional motive. Nasreena's gold chain and mobile phone are missing, and relatives have disclosed that Adnan had recently been seeking money to buy a motorcycle. Police are investigating whether securing funds for the purchase may have been part of his motive, though this has not yet been confirmed.

Following post-mortem examinations, both bodies were handed over to their respective families. Adnan has been buried. Nasreena's funeral will take place after her father Nizar, currently abroad, returns home.
