KIIFB Gave Wings to Kerala’s Development Dreams: CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Kollam: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said that Kerala’s development ambitions gained momentum through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), as the identification of financial resources outside the state budget made it possible to carry out large-scale development works. He was speaking after inaugurating a state-of-the-art 130-bed building constructed with KIIFB funds at the Taluk Hospital in Kundara, Kollam district.

The Chief Minister said development projects are usually announced through the annual budget, but relying only on budgetary resources often delays their completion. This realisation, he said, led the government to revive and strengthen KIIFB as an alternative financial mechanism to ensure timely execution of projects.

He said the government had initially aimed to implement projects worth 50,000 crore rupees over five years. “With the strong support of the people, the government was able to take up projects worth 62,000 crore rupees. At present, projects worth 90,000 crore rupees are progressing across the state through KIIFB. Today, KIIFB projects can be seen in almost every part of Kerala,” the Chief Minister said.

Recalling the Covid period, Pinarayi Vijayan said the impact of the government’s interventions in the health sector became clearly visible during the pandemic. While even developed countries struggled to cope with Covid, Kerala’s strengthened public healthcare system was able to respond effectively. He said the government’s objective is to ensure that modern hospital buildings and quality treatment facilities are accessible to ordinary people.

The newly constructed building at the Kundara Taluk Hospital, with facilities for 130 beds, is expected to bring major relief to the people of the region. The hospital will now offer improved services, including modern laboratory facilities and a well-equipped emergency department.
