Kerala’s Youngest Organ Donor: Organs Of 10-Month-Old Infant Donated

Kochi: In a deeply moving act of courage amid grief, a 10-month-old baby has become the youngest organ donor in Kerala. Aalin Sherin Abraham was declared brain dead following a road accident, after which her parents consented to donate her organs to save other children.
Aalin, daughter of a family from Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district, had been undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam after the accident. Despite intensive medical efforts, doctors confirmed brain death.
In an extraordinary gesture of compassion, her parents decided to donate her organs so that other children might receive a second chance at life.
The organs are being retrieved at Amrita Hospital. Her two kidneys will be transplanted into a child undergoing treatment at the Paediatric Nephrology Ward of SAT Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The liver and heart valve will also be used for patients in urgent need.
The organs are scheduled to be transported by road at 6.30 pm on Friday in specially arranged ambulances. They will be taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, and Sree Chitra Institute to facilitate timely transplantation procedures.
