Kerala Story 2 Faces Legal Challenge: HC Issues Notice to CBFC

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has issued notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on a petition seeking cancellation of the censor certificate granted to the film Kerala Story 2. The petition alleges that the film defames Kerala and promotes communal division.

The petitioners have also requested the court to stay the screening of the film. They argued that the first part of the movie had earlier faced strong protests for allegedly presenting misleading information that could affect communal harmony in the state.

According to the petition, cinema should not be used to spread narratives disconnected from reality, as such portrayals could damage Kerala’s image. During the hearing, the court sought clarification on whether the film contains scenes that hurt religious sentiments or target any particular community.

The High Court has asked the central government and the CBFC to file their response on the matter. The film had already triggered criticism from political and cultural figures after the release of its trailer. The case will come up for further consideration next week.
