Another Eight-Year-Old Boy Dies of Snakebite While Asleep; Two Deaths Within Days in State

Thiruvananthapuram: Two eight-year-old boys have died of snakebite in separate incidents across Kerala within days of each other, both bitten while asleep, sending shock waves through the affected families and communities.

In the latest incident, Dikshal from Chirayinkeezhu inThiruvananthapuram, was bitten by a snake in the early hours of Thursday at around 4 am while sleeping. He was rushed to Chirayinkeezhu hospital for initial treatment, but died on the way to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. A cobra was subsequently caught by locals from the room where the child had been sleeping and is believed to be responsible for the bite. The body has been kept at the Medical College Hospital pending inquest formalities before being handed over to the family.

In a strikingly similar incident just days earlier, Aljo from Thrissur, died after being bitten by a snake while asleep at home. His ten-year-old brother Alojo, who was also bitten, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
