Rain Likely to Intensify in Keralam; Yellow Alert in Eight Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecast an increase in rainfall across Kerala, with yellow alerts issued in eight districts on Tuesday.

Yellow alerts have been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. An orange alert has been forecast for Kottayam and Idukki.

A heavy rainfall refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in a 24-hour period.

Restrictions have been imposed in Idukki in view of heavy rain and the threat of landslides. Night travel has been banned in the district's high-range areas from 7 pm to 6 am. Authorities have also ordered the closure of adventure tourism centres until the alerts are withdrawn.

Vehicles are being diverted from Old Munnar due to the threat of landslides. Vehicles must enter the Gap Road from near the CSI Church and reach the town after crossing the bridge near the police station.

Five families were relocated from Pazhamballichal in Adimali, Idukki, as a precaution against the possibility of a landslide.
