Power Restrictions Likely to Continue in Kerala Today, Says KSEB

Thiruvananthapuram: Power restrictions are likely to continue in the state today, according to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The repeated power disruptions in Kerala are being attributed to the alleged lack of proper planning and administrative failures by the government and KSEB.

The authorities failed to arrange the required additional power supply despite anticipating a rise of 400 to 500 megawatts in electricity consumption. KSEB has said that if sufficient power is not available through the power exchange, restrictions may be imposed during the evening peak hours today.

Criticism has intensified that authorities are attempting to shift the responsibility onto consumers by advising them to avoid using air conditioners and other essential appliances during peak hours to conceal their own failures. Despite collecting high electricity charges, the inability to provide uninterrupted power supply has drawn criticism as a failure of governance.

KSEB has maintained that electricity availability through the power exchange has significantly declined due to a nationwide increase in power demand, and that this shortage is the reason behind the ongoing power interruptions.
