Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has seen a sharp drop in electricity consumption after weeks of scorching heat pushed demand to all-time highs. Recent summer showers have slightly cooled temperatures, reducing reliance on air conditioners and coolers.

This has resolved technical glitches caused by load surges, including transformer overloads and power tripping that plagued several areas in recent weeks. KSEB had imposed minor local restrictions to manage the crisis.

No such issues were reported anywhere in the state yesterday, KSEB confirmed, thanks to the onset of rains.

The India Meteorological Department predicts stronger pre-monsoon showers ahead, with yellow alerts issued today for Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. KSEB expects further temperature drops and significant power consumption relief as rains intensify, easing pressure on the distribution network.
