Kerala Local Body By-Election Results to Be Announced Today, Vote Counting Begins at 10

Thiruvananthapuram: The results of the by-elections to 38 local body wards in Keralam will be announced today. Counting of votes will begin at 10 am. The results will be available on the TREND section of the State Election Commission’s website, www.sec.kerala.gov.in.

A total of 126 candidates contested in 38 local body wards across 12 districts, excluding Kollam and Alappuzha.

The by-elections were held in two corporation divisions — Kochi and Kozhikode — three municipality divisions, three district panchayat divisions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Palakkad, seven block panchayat divisions and 23 panchayat wards.

The current tally in the 38 wards is UDF 22, LDF 15 and Twenty20 one.

This is the first local body by-election in the state after the Assembly elections. The recent political situation is expected to influence voters, given the timing of the by-election.

Polling was held on Monday from 7 am to 6 pm. The voter turnout was 58.04%. Polling was conducted at 385 polling stations.
