97% of Kerala Families Now Own Land Deeds; Reflects LDF' Vision: Finance Minister K N Balagopal

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister K N Balagopal said that ensuring 97% of the people in Kerala own land along with valid land records is a clear reflection of the LDF government’s vision. Responding to the budget debate in the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the LDF government has provided houses to over five lakh people who were previously homeless.
He pointed out that in 1957, only about 9 per cent of the population owned land with proper documentation, whereas today, 97 per cent possess land records. This transformation was made possible through sustained government intervention. Lakhs of land title deeds (pattayam) have been distributed as part of this effort.
Prioritising marginalised sections has always been the hallmark of Left governments, Balagopal said. He noted that free education has been extended even to degree-level students and that welfare schemes have been implemented effectively. These interventions have brought about significant changes in every aspects of everyday lives of common people, he added, stressing that improvements have been achieved across all aspects of life for the common citizen.
