Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that Kerala has been able to show the entire country what a sustainable development model looks like. This includes projects such as the Water Metro and the Wayanad Tunnel. He made this remark during the inauguration of the National Environment Conference organized by the Haritha Kerala Mission.

Kerala is on the path to massive development. The Chief Minister emphasised that the focus has been on envisioning development projects with environmental considerations in mind. When the LDF government came to power in 2016, priority was given to sustainable development. Along with ensuring that the benefits of development reach everyone, the aim was also to preserve nature and natural resources for future generations. It was with this goal in mind that the Haritha Kerala Mission was launched in 2016.

The main programs of the conference include paper presentations, panel discussions, and expert responses on topics such as agriculture, environmental restoration, a net-zero carbon Kerala, energy, climate change, green belts, human-animal conflict, the environment and media, climate change and agriculture, disaster-prone areas, and disaster management activities, water budgets, and air and water quality.

The conference is being carried out in two stages, with 73 paper presentations in 18 sessions. There will also be a presentation on the activities of the Haritha Kerala Mission and a meeting with project beneficiaries. Ministers, elected representatives, environmental experts, scholars, students, youth, media personnel, representatives of various organisations, and department heads will participate in the conference.
