Four More Deaths from Infectious Diseases in Keralam, 10 Fresh Shigella Cases Reported

Thiruvananthapuram: Four more people have died of infectious diseases in Keralam on Saturday. The person who died in Ernakulam on Thursday has been confirmed to have had leptospirosis, while the 77-year-old man who died in Thiruvananthapuram has been confirmed to have had H1N1. One more death due to fever was reported from Ernakulam.
A death due to Japanese encephalitis has also been reported from Tanur, Malappuram.
Ten more Shigella cases have been confirmed — five in Malappuram, four in Kozhikode and one in Wayanad — with Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad recording the highest number of new cases. Currently, four districts are seeing active spread of the disease: Kozhikode (65), Wayanad (26), Thrissur (13) and Alappuzha (5). Sixty fresh cases of dengue, 16 of leptospirosis and four of malaria have also been newly reported.
