Kerala High Court Criticises Government Over S Sreejith’s Promotion to DGP Rank

Kochi: The Kerala High Court strongly criticised the state government over the promotion of Prisons Chief S Sreejith to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), observing that the promotion was against the rules.
The court said vigilance clearance was mandatory for promoting an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) to the rank of DGP. Questioning the urgency behind the decision, the court asked the government why it was in such a hurry to promote a person facing allegations.
Justice A Badharudeen, who was hearing a petition seeking a vigilance inquiry into the appointment of two bodybuilders as sub-inspectors, pointed out lapses in the procedures followed by the UDF government.
The court observed that the government had taken the decision in haste while the petition seeking a vigilance inquiry was still under consideration.
The case was adjourned for further hearing.
