Kerala High Court to Deliver Verdict on Contempt Plea Against Thiruvananthapuram Mayor on Wednesday

Kochi: The Kerala High Court will deliver its verdict on August 5 in a contempt petition filed against Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh and others over an event held by encroaching on a public road.

The programme was organised on June 5 as part of the cleaning activities at the Amayizhanchan Canal and caused an obstruction to traffic. The petition, filed by N Prakash, was considered by a Division Bench comprising Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice S Murali Krishna.

The judges viewed video clips of media reports related to the incident in open court. The Additional Advocate General informed the court that a stage had been erected on the road without obtaining permission from the District Police Chief, as required under the Kerala Public Ways Restriction Act.

A case has been registered at the Vanchiyoor police station in connection with the incident. The police seized the materials used to construct the stage and the sound system and produced them before the court, the government informed the Bench.

The court also sought to know whether the government was taking measures to ensure that pedestrian pathways were not obstructed.
