Monsoon Intensifies in Keralam, Yellow Alert in Two Districts Today

Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam is bracing for heavier monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department warning of very heavy rainfall over the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued today for Wayanad and Kannur districts, where isolated spells of intense rain are likely, with rainfall of up to 115.5 mm possible within 24 hours.


Heavy rain is forecast to continue over the following days as well. A yellow alert has been issued for tomorrow in eight districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode — while the day after, the alert will extend to the northern districts of Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.


Widespread thundershowers are expected across the state today, accompanied by strong winds gusting up to 50 km/h. With winds likely to intensify over the Arabian Sea, a caution notice has been issued for various coastal areas. Wind speeds of up to 65 km/h are expected along the Somali coast, the southwest Arabian Sea and the northern Oman coast.
