Yellow Alert in Three Northern Districts, Fishing Ban Along Keralam Coast Until Saturday

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall in Keralam over the coming days. A yellow alert has been declared today for three northern districts — Kasaragod, Kannur and Kozhikode. While no specific rain warnings are in place for other districts, isolated spells of thundershowers are likely in some areas.

Authorities have advised residents in hilly and coastal areas to exercise special caution as wind speeds may increase. Heavy rain is forecast to continue across the state for the next two days, with the rainfall expected to spread to more districts by tomorrow.

Tomorrow (Friday), a yellow alert has been issued for seven districts in view of the likelihood of heavy rain — Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki. No warnings are currently in place for the remaining seven districts. Fishing has been completely banned along the Keralam, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts until Saturday due to the likelihood of strong winds and adverse weather conditions.

Heavy rainfall has been recorded in various parts of the state in recent days. Collectors of Kannur and Kasaragod had declared holidays for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in view of the persistent heavy rain in the northern districts. The Keralam State Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to remain extremely vigilant given the intensifying rain.
