Thiruvananthapuram: Red alerts have been issued for two more dams in Keralam as heavy rainfall continues across the state. The alerts have been declared for the Neyyar Dam in Thiruvananthapuram and the Malankara Dam in Idukki.

Residents living downstream of all dams and in nearby areas have been issued precautionary warnings. People living close to the Neyyar and Malankara dams, where red alerts have been declared, have also been advised to move to safer locations.

Authorities have warned that the shutters of the Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode could be opened at any time. Water continues to flow into the reservoir from the surrounding catchment areas, and the dam is expected to reach its full storage capacity soon.

Authorities said the dam shutters may have to be opened immediately if the water level continues to rise. People living on both banks of the river have been advised to remain extremely vigilant.

Restrictions have also been imposed on entering the river.
