Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is expected to experience heavy rainfall with strong winds and thunderstorms over the next five days, as Cyclone Ditwah approaches and is forecast to make landfall in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh by Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned fishermen against venturing into the seas along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts until November 30.
The IMD has predicted winds of 45–65 kmph over the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts, as well as nearby areas of the Arabian Sea, on Friday and Saturday.
In addition, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has alerted coastal residents and fishermen to exercise caution, warning of rough seas due to the Kallakkadal effect, a sudden rise in sea waves, on Saturday until 11.30 pm. Coastal areas in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kozhikode are expected to experience tidal wave surges.
A yellow alert has been issued by the IMD for five districts, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad, on Saturday.
