Factionalism Intensifies in Congress Ahead of Keralam Election Results; K Sudhakaran Backs K C Venugopal

Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala awaits the Assembly election results, internal factional tensions within the Indian National Congress have escalated, with senior leaders appearing to realign their positions.

Senior leader K Sudhakaran has come out in strong support of K C Venugopal, widely seen as a move to counter the influence of Opposition Leader V D Satheesan and KPCC president Sunny Joseph.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Sudhakaran praised Venugopal as a visionary leader capable of providing direction to both the Congress and the UDF. He expressed confidence that Venugopal could inspire party workers and emerge as a key leader shaping Kerala’s political future.

Sudhakaran had earlier backed Ramesh Chennithala but now appears to have shifted his stance. He earlier stated that the letters allegedly sent by Satheesan and Sunny Joseph to the party high command, requesting that he not be fielded as a candidate, were not fake. He has demanded an investigation into the matter and said he would approach both the state police chief and the party leadership.

Adding to the developments, leader Sandeep Warrier also publicly praised Venugopal, stating in a social media video that it was Venugopal who brought him into the Congress.

In his detailed post, Sudhakaran highlighted Venugopal’s organizational skills and role in energizing party workers across Kerala during the election campaign. He described him as a leader with grassroots experience, commitment, and the ability to connect with party cadres.

The developments indicate deepening factional divisions within the Congress in Kerala, even as the party awaits crucial election results that could shape its leadership dynamics in the state.
