Thiruvananthapuram: The state is celebrating Christmas today by spreading a message of love, harmony, and unity, recalling the memories of the birth of Jesus Christ. Midnight Mass was held last night in churches across the state. Churches and homes were adorned with stars and decorations, adding vibrancy to the festivities. Cake-cutting ceremonies and carol singing marked the Christmas celebrations.

Educational institutions and workplaces also became venues for celebrations of unity. This year’s Christmas celebrations also served as a strong declaration that Kerala’s soil has no space for the communal agenda of the Sangh Parivar.

Various fairs, flower shows, and festivals are being held across the state in connection with Christmas and the New Year. In the capital city, large crowds are visiting the flower show and illumination displays organized by the Tourism Department at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds. Churches and roadsides have been decorated with lights, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

The hypocrisy of the BJP, which last year visited Christian homes with cakes, has now been laid bare. An RSS worker who attacked a carol group in Puthussery, Palakkad, has been arrested. Although Sangh Parivar groups attempted to impose restrictions on Christmas celebrations in some schools, government intervention ensured that schools closed for holidays along with Christmas celebrations.

To control prices of essential commodities, Supplyco and Consumerfed organized Christmas–New Year fairs offering goods at subsidized rates. The increased pension amount of 2,000 rupees has reached beneficiaries. As a Christmas and New Year gift, applications have been invited for the women’s security scheme that provides 1,000 rupees per month as financial support to women.
