Kerala Cabinet Approves Compensation for Shops Destroyed in Wayanad Landslide

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cabinet has approved compensation for building owners and entrepreneurs who lost shop spaces in the landslide that struck Meppadi in Wayanad district.
According to the decision, shops that were completely destroyed in the disaster will receive compensation of 7 lakh per unit, regardless of the type or structure of the building. If an owner lost more than one shop, an additional 2.5 lakh will be provided for each extra unit.
Entrepreneurs affected by the landslide will also receive financial support to restart their businesses. The assistance will be limited to 50 per cent of the assessed loss or a maximum amount fixed for each sector, whichever is lower. The cap has been set at 20 lakh for the construction sector, 10 lakh for the service sector, and 7 lakh for the trade sector.
The Cabinet has decided to release the required funds from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The Wayanad District Collector has been entrusted with distributing the compensation to eligible beneficiaries.
